First Scene from The Amazing Spider-Man

The Amazing Spider-Man set to release July 3, 2012

When I first heard that they we doing a re-boot of the Spider-Man movies I, along with probably every other comic book movie fan, let out a groan.   It just hadn’t been long enough to warrant a re-boot.  Then I saw X-Men:  First Class which I had similar feelings about and I was completely blown away.  So I started rethinking my initial reaction.

After seeing the trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man I have to say that I think that this movie could turn out being really good.  I enjoyed Andrew Garfield in The Social Network and I think Emma Stone is awesome, Easy A and Zombieland were both fantastic.  So, naysayers be damned, I am going to be see this movie.

Below is a the first look at a clip from the movie.  It’s short and doesn’t have any action in it but it does show Garfield’s portrayal of Peter Parker rather well.  While I liked Tobey Maguire in The Cider House Rules and Brothers he was never my idea of who Spider-Man should be.  From this scene and the trailers I can tell that Andrew Garfield will be playing a better Peter Parker/Spider-Man than Maguire.  He’s better portraying how lovably hopeless Peter can be and he has that smart-mouthed bravado that the the webslinger is known for.

Do I lose “geek cred” for wanting to see this movie?
