Episode 33 – Favorite Apps

These days, everyone has a smartphone.  You’ve got one.  Your mom has one.  Hell, even the 2nd graders down the street have one, and they probably know more about how to operate it than the techs at Apple do.  That being said, one of the greatest features of smartphone and tablet technology is the plethora of Apps being developed by everyday geeks faster than you can switch from an Android to an iPhone* (*contract restrictions may apply).  Join us this week as we discuss some of our favorite Apps.  Whether it’s useful time wasters (aka games), infinite knowledge at our finger tips, or the ability to stay organized at work, at the gaming table, or in the daily grind of life in general, we’re not really sure how we used to function without them.  So, make sure your battery is charged, the touch screen is polished up, and your notepad app is open and ready as we discuss it all on this weeks new episode of Monkey in the Cage.

Burn, Baby, Burn!

I beat Plants Vs. Zombies for the umpteenth time last week and decided I needed to find a new game to waste my precious time with.  Monster Burner popped up in the iTunes app store and I shelled out the whopping $2.99 as singed little monsters danced in my head.  <begging> Speaking of iTunes… have you all subscribed to the podcast and given us a good rating yet? </begging>  But I digress… back to my attempt at a game review.

You take on the role as a wizard defending your position by throwing fireballs at the invading monster hordes.    The monsters conveniently march in nice, tidy formations.  So, with a little bit of patience one fireball can go a long way.  Which is a good strategy since combos bring more points and the less fireballs used, the less mana used.

If any monsters happen to dodge your onslaught you will lose a heart, the ever-classic symbol of life.  As the game progresses the the standard monsters call in some tougher reinforcements that can withstand more damage or extinguish your fireballs.  You also gather coins that can be used at the in-game shop to purchase stronger spells and health.  At  some point a pesky princess shows up with monsters in hot pursuit.  Avoid her or lose hearts.  Enough with the damsel-in-distress act lady, turn around and fight back already!

It’s a fun, little game with cute graphics.  All in all a good time-killer.  I’m not at the fully addicted phase yet but it will do until the next level of Where’s My Water? is released!  Yeah, so I like cutesy little kid games… this is a judgement-free zone so stop looking at me like that!

My Rating: 3 out of 5 Happy Karens
