It’s a fire, mister, and all fires are bad: Flash Point: Fire Rescue

I’ll level with you here. I went to school and got my EMT license because I wanted to be a firefighter. Had I known how bad I actually was at it I never would have strapped on those boots for the first time. There are only so many cardboard deaths a man can take before it starts to take its toll on him. Even with all of my training Flash Point: Fire Rescue chewed me up and spit me out like a rookie. Episode 17 – Co-Op Experiences

In this day and age of online gaming and social media, we geeks have it sweet in the ability to jump on our PC’s or consoles with people from around the world and wreak havoc upon AI foes or one another in any number of settings no matter what time of day it is. Whether it’s banding together for a raid in World of Warcraft, or failing miserably to save the world in a game of Pandemic, one of the best gaming experiences a gamer can have is when teamwork with you closest friends brings sweet, sweet victory or amusingly humiliating defeat.

Join us this week as we shotgun blast your ears with our numerous (and we mean numerous!) experiences with Co-Op gameplay. From video games to board games to tabletop RPG’s, we hit it fast, hard, and chaotic, just like Leeroy Jenkins himself. Plug in and listen up, because the Co-Op memories just keep coming!

Unboxing: The Walking Dead Board Game

You can't have an unboxing without a box, right?

The enormous popularity of The Walking Dead graphic novels and AMC series have resulted in, wait for it… merchandise!  Shocking, right?  Every good geek franchise comes complete with a plethora of action figures, books, and other goodies that the fans can clamor over.  So, this week I am unboxing one of the two Walking Dead board games at are currently on the market.

I loves me some Dale and his smelly RV, the unsung heroes of the series.

Not to be confused with The Walking Dead Board Game  by Cryptozoic Entertainment which features the characters from the television series, Z-Man Games has chosen to stick with the source material and feature the original art of Charlie Adlard from the graphic novels.  The quality of the game is stellar but I expect nothing less from Z-Man who also publishes Pandemic (the game that vexes us so!)

Tokens: Wounds, resources, companions, and a massive pile of zombies.

You take on the role of one of six main survivors:  Rick, Shane, Dale, Glen, Andrea, and Tyreese (a character that I feel is sorely missed in the TV series.) You also start with one companion.  The object is to collect resources in the form of food, gas, and ammo then scout three locations looking for a “safe” place amid the scores of zombies looking to feast on your flesh.

Ooh, glossy!

The rulebook is short and looks like a comic.  A nice little touch that was not lost on me.  I am a sucker for those little details.

Choose your weapon... well, they are assigned to you but whatever.

Each character is armed with their own dice pool based on the stats on their character cards.  Among the multi-colored dice you will find:  Hero, Warrior, Scavenger, and Ammo dice.

Thought I was done with the pictures, huh? Nope. You need an overview, duh!

I am looking forward to digging in and trying this one out.  And being the consumer whore fan that I am I will let you all know how it compares to the Cryptozoic Entertainment version once Amazon delivers it to my doorstep.
