What happens when you put two out-of-shape nerds behind some microphones and give them access to the internet? Magic. Magic and deep-seated homoerotic sexual tension, but mostly magic. Join Robert and Matt this week as they talk about movies, books, theater, and delicious cake! From mutants and Mormons to emo elves and LARPing, this week’s episode has got a little bit of everything for a whole lot of no one. Gen Con 2013 is just around the corner, and I’m already losing sleep from the building excitement. Making it to Gen Con has been high on my gamer bucket list for close to two decades and in only a few short months, I’ll finally get to experience the geektastic event that is “the best four days in gaming.” Event registration was a little over a week ago, and while I didn’t get into every event I had hoped for, I was actually surprised I made it into the majority. Here’s a quick run-down of my Gen Con schedule for Thursday August 15th, which includes the event description and my first impressions of what lies in store.
Gamers want to feel immersed and invested in the games they play and run. Now, while this responsibility can be shared by Players and GMs alike, it will almost certainly falls on the shoulders of the overburdened GM. Bringing something unique and memorable to the gaming table – be it a prop, ambiance, or even food – will definitely stay in the forefront of the Players minds, unlike useless details such as “Where are we?” or “What are we supposed to be doing?” or “What was the name of the guy that hired us?” Join us this week as we welcome our special guest, MITC listener and fellow podcaster JiB of the Happy Jacks RPG community to talk about techniques to help bring a game to life. Strap on a HazMat suit, clean out your test tubes, and be sure to have a plan as you get ready for an all new episode of Monkey in the Cage!

So back in the 80’s, before anyone here at To-Ag Studios had ever rolled up a character, delved into a dungeon, or put the beat down on some Monster Manual baddies, Dungeons & Dragons was getting a bad rap. You grognards out there are sure to remember the public outcries of Satanism and devil-worship, but now-a-days, with gaming becoming a touch more mainstream, such reactions are slightly less common (at least we’d like to hope so). However, we in the gaming community will always have the likes of Mazes and Monsters to contend with. Join us this week as we discuss our viewing of this crap-tastic, gamer-tainting Tom Hanks extravaganza! Dial in your sonar, stock up on your psyche meds, and prepare for the death of hope on a brand new episode of Monkey in the Cage!
