Reiner Knizia’s Tile-Laying Trilogy on iOS Part One: Through the Desert

This is the start of a three part series about board game designer Reiner Knizia’s tile-laying trilogy. Reiner Knizia is probably the most famous and prolific board game designer ever, having designed over four hundred games that include dice, card, board, auction, and mobile (iOS) games. In 1997 and 1998 he published three games, Tigris and Euphrates, Samurai, and Through the Desert, that all used a tile-laying mechanic. Though he does not consider them to be a trilogy, they are collectively known in the board game community as the Knizia tile-laying trilogy. Continue reading

Carcassone on iOS: A Review

Carcassone is an outstanding introduction to European style board gaming and its iteration on iOS provides a cost-effective and fun means of learning and playing this tile-laying classic.  Depending on sales, it usually runs between four and five dollars in the app store and is an outstanding value, considering the board game is about twenty bucks on Amazon and you can play it with the computer for all those sad times you don’t have any friends.
