MITC Back in the Habit

Episode 76 – Heroes: Part Deux

magneto-anyone-can-be-a-hero-demotivator
So, way, way, WAY back in Episode 8, we here at To-Ag Studios talked Heroes and Villains.  Seeing as the Monkeys still had their podcasting training wheels on, we approached two very broad and interesting topics with the reckless abandon of Hulk and Wolverine on a bender.  So now, 68 weeks later, we have reconvened our Monkey council in order to once again discuss the hero figure and why we love them.  Draw down your cowls, make some therapy appointments, and get your butt out of retirement as were headed for round 2 to discuss Heroes (NOT the show) on a brand new episode of Monkey in the Cage!

City of Heroes Final Free Update: The End?

In April of 2004 I was on the precipice of graduation from High School. I still lived at home, naturally, and I was once again mentally ranting about the fact that my country upbringing ensured that I had only dial up internet. The reason for my venom? I had just learned of the release of a Massive Multiplayer Online Game by the name of City of Heroes. Thinking back on it now I still wish I’d been able to jump on board at the launch of the game. I did eventually join my friends in this incredible game world, with the release of City of Villains in October of 2005, and have loved the game ever since. With the recent news of its pending shut down I wanted to pay a little homage to this game that played a huge role in my young adult life while in college.

My Many Characters – A PC Snapshot

I love to create both Player Characters and Non-Player Characters as I feel that the individuals that populate game worlds are as important (if not moreso) than the game world itself.  The rest of the group has verbalized many, many, many times that I can get so wrapped up in my affinity for creating that it often gets in the way of actually playing a table-top RPG.  Be that as it may, I know that I am first and foremost a player, so this week, I’ve decided to share some of my favorite creations – past, present, and in limbo.

Episode 8 – Heroes and Villains

We all love heroes, right?  We also know that for a great story to exist, there needs to be great characters, and while not all stories are epic adventures of  ass-kickery, they all most definitely have a main character we can relate to.  Whether you’re reading a book, watching a movie or playing a game it is fairly safe to say that during that time you have a vested interest in the characters and the world in which they exist.  However, for every great protagonist, there should be a great antagonist and every once in awhile, the villains are even cooler than the hero, right!  We know!  This week, we’re talking Heroes and Villains and what we feel make them effective, believable and deeply complex.  Seal up your Bat Cave, double up on inept Henchmen, and make sure your Fortress of Solitude stays that way because you won’t want to miss a minute of this!
