Episode 93 – San Diego Comic-Con 2013

SDCC 2013

Another year, another pilgrimage to Geek Mecca.  San Diego Comic-Con came, saw, and conquered just like it does every year, and while none of us here at To-Ag studios were actually able to secure a pass to the convention floor (believe us, it’s difficult, frustrating, and expensive), we still did our best to be present and soak up the geeky goodness we could.  Join us this week as we discuss our experiences and some awesome geek news to come out of SDCC 2013!  Shine up your cutlass, practice playing Rock Band, and drink some of whatever Wayne Brady’s having as you get ready for a brand new episode of Monkey in the Cage!

Are Historical Settings the Best Settings?

Seeing as the crew over at Gamerstable happens to be running an undoubtedly awesome Mutants and Masterminds game set in the Second World War, I couldn’t help but have a half hour nerdgasm full of talking at my car stereo like I was right there with them during their recording session.  Be that as it may, their awesome episode last week (which can be heard here) inspired me to put my two cents in on some do’s and dont’s of either creating or running a game heavily influenced by, or set in an actual real-world historical setting.

Tabletop roleplaying games are all about stepping outside of yourself and wreaking havoc…er… having fun with your friends in fantastic and action packed ways.  But what happens when the geek by day / PC by night saddles up to the gaming table brimming with real-world knowledge and challenges the game, or worse, the other players?  Join us this week as we discuss the oft controversial and absolutely annoying facet of metagaming know as player vs. character knowledge. Butch up those acting skills,  leave the day job in the car, and just live in the (Player Character) moment as you enjoy a brand new* episode of Monkey in the Cage!

Assassin’s Creed III Set in the American Revolution

Assassin's Creed III is set to release October 30, 2012

Ubisoft has released the box art for the upcoming Assassin’s Creed III.  Note the American and British flags in the background confirming that the new assassin will be having a good ole “murder party” in the U.S.A..  More news is set to release on Monday!

(I should note that Robert found this news but since he’s too busy to post, I get the credit for it!  Take that, Skaggs!)
