Merry 2014 out there in Podcast Land! Your hosts, Matt and Robert are here to start off the new year right, blathering on about all sorts of stuff that literally 10’s of people care about. Gird your loins and prepare for another weekly adventure, as there will be little people, yes-men, and madness galore! That’s right boys and girls, you’re about to get a fresh case of the UD because you’re on your way to the podcast DANGER ZONE!
Geeks, Nerds, Dorks, and Dweebs of the world, unite! Too long have we stood in the shadows of the Jocks and Norm-ies! Too often have the “Popular” cast us aside! Now is our time to look beyond our differences and show the world what we’re made of! Join us this week as we discuss the many layers of Geek subculture. We peel back the skin of the Funyun and look at the subcultures within the subculture, from Gamers and Cosplayers to Trekkies and Furries. So, make sure your Battlebot is charged up, strap on your foam sword, and get your character sheets in order because it’s about to get meta up in here on a whole new episode of Monkey in the Cage… Oh, and roll initiative!
Being a geek is an investment in time, money, and most importantly interest. But what happens when the time isn’t available or the interest isn’t there? With so many things to keep up on, past and present, it can often be difficult to stay on top of what-is-what and to be as informed and exposed as possible. Join us this week as we reveal some of our personal shortcomings in geekdom. Whether it’s geek-centric things we flat out don’t enjoy or haven’t had the pleasure of getting our hands on, we all come clean on our holes in the geek game. Don’t be hatin’, but get your hate-mail ready (and remember to send it to Matt) after this week’s episode of Monkey in the Cage.
Join us this week as we “talk the walk” and look at one of our favorite subjects of entertainment, The Walking Dead. We jump right into the zombie apocalypse and discuss the things we both love and “meh” about the AMC hit, the similarities and differences between the comics and the show, and go SPOILER CRAZY in the name of good conversation and entertainment. So, barricade the doors and windows, lock and load those earphones, and be wary of other survivors as we discuss The Walking Dead! **WARNING – SPOILERS AHEAD!**
The first half of the show is spoiler free though so feel free to download and listen, we warn you before we start the spoiler discussion.
One of the best parts of a new year, besides failing miserably at your resolutions by the second week of January, is the start of a whole new convention season. Whether you are rabidly anticipating the “Geek Mecca” that is San Diego Comic-Con or like to keep it low-key and hit up your local favorites, we here at the Podcast love conventions, large and small. From awesome (to awesomely bad) cosplay to getting mad-dogged by The Incredible Hulk himself, Lou Ferrigno, hitting the convention circuit and reporting back to our listeners is definitely a top priority for the podcast monkeys this year.
Join us this week as we welcome our most seasoned Con-goer and close personal friend, The David from the Greenlandic Powerpop band The Maxies, as we recollect some highlights from convention trips past. Grab your daily passes and stack up your swag while we dive into this week’s look at the convention experience. It’s both chaotic and fun, just like the convention floor!
The New Year is finally upon us. 2011 brought some good times for us here at Monkey in the Cage, namely the birth of our wicked cool podcast (that’s for any fans we may have in Boston). But, as awesome as 2011 was, 2012 is going to be a thousand times better. This year is going to be a geeks dream year come true – everything from video games and movies to conventions and podcasts. Like everyone else, we look forward to the new year and what it brings, but at the same time, we can’t help but take a nostalgic trip down memory lane.
This week, as everyone is looking forward, we’re looking back. Join us as we talk about the a crap load of things from our childhood and adolescence that we both love an miss. Be it cereals, tv shows, cartoons, or professional wrestling, nothing is off-limits as we babble on and on and commit the cardinal sin of dating ourselves and feeling old. Let your ears take a listen and your mind reminisce on the things that helped make us the geeks we are!
