Episode 54 – Zombies in Pop-Culture

Zombies. Zombies, zombies, zombies.  They are everywhere these days.  They’re on your TV, they’re in your movie theater, they show up at little kids birthday parties (true story), but what is it that makes these mindless flesh-eating killing machines so appealing?  Join us this week as we look at the zombie explosion that has taken over pop-culture like a … well, like a horde of zombies!  Lock the doors, board up those windows, and remember you can drink the water from the toilet tank if you need to , as we talk Zombie-mania on a whole new episode of Monkey in the Cage.

(00:46) – Matt takes a stand against (his own) illiteracy and is impressed with the size of a certain part of Liam Neeson’s anatomy. – Joe Golem and the Drowning City, Baltimore Volume 2: The Curse Bells, and Taken 2.  Plus, Die Hard returns!

(09:18) – Robert one-ups Matt’s attempts to read, talks homebrews, and catches up on some hardcovers. – The Dresden Files, The Complete Joy of Homebrewing, and The Walking Dead.  Also, Matt reveals a secret and Robert beats Sleeping Dogs… those poor snoozing pups…

(15:20) – We talk Frisbee Golf and Trampoline Parks.  You know, real sports.

(17:47) – Ramses reveals the true mouth-burn cure, Matt shocks everyone with his in-depth knowledge of Pitbull, the Ukrainian Navy gets AMAZING, and Ramses’ dreams get meta thanks to Dead Space 2.  Plus, he hates Borderlands 2.

(26:56) – Karen lives up to the Podcast namesake, we discuss the questionable timing of the Justice League Movie, and Son of Ernest is coming… but why??

(36:38) – It’s topic time! Ramses is related to a zombie from Thriller, we discuss the cultural aspects of “classic zombies” and “contemporary culture,” Karen drops the banhammer on zombies eating brains, and we ponder on how the popular trend might be a plausible and actually prepares us for any apocalypse.  Thanks CDC!

(44:15) – Ramses opens up the topic of the geek / zombie relationship and how accepted it has become, while Robert points out how easy it is to drop zombies into media successfully and makes humanity take a long hard look at itself. (50:53) – Ramses broaches the question of whether or not zombies need to evolve beyond the point they’re at, we discuss our inexperience with zombie-survival RPGs, and Karen talks about the zombie-esque theme of The Colony: Season 2.  Plus, We’re Alive keeps going strong, bringing zombies to your ears!!

(56:15) – We talk aspects of The Walking Dead Season 3 opener, Talking Dead, and one of the best/worst zombies yet!

(57:56) – Ramses takes it to a whole new level with some awesomely questionable zombie products on Amazon.com! – Zombie Ammo Kit, Zombie Jerky, the Zombie Fleshlight, and the Zombie Dildo.  Plus, Tactical Zombie Shooting!

(1:01:22) – We close it out with the aweseomness that is zombie video games and DLC and how we are really just training future generations! – Undead Nightmare, Nazi Zombies, Sleeping Dogs, Plants vs. Zombies, Zombie Farm, and Plight of The Zombie.  However, nothing is scarier than this and we totally copyright Zombie Tag!
